“NEWPORT, NY–The Kuyahoora Valley region has seen an unusual number of children with cancer in the area in the past 30 years. Now the group, “Kuyahoora Valley – What’s Making Us Sick” is petitioning state and federal lawmakers to investigate site of the Newport Antenna Radiation Pattern Measurement Facility.
According to the group the state Department of Health has conducted three investigations on the eight cases of cancer that have been diagnosed since the 1980s. Six pediatric cases of cancer were diagnosed between 2011 and 2013. Three of those cases were diagnosed with the same rare aggressive form of lymphoma.
Lowell said the health department to investigate the possible cancer cluster, but it would reportedly take almost two years to complete. The investigation would also have some limitations because the of the lack of funding.
The group has decided to take further action by working with a chemical engineer [I hear those guys are really smart!] and various undisclosed universities.”

Half of my life i grew up in the mohawk valley area and spent time in newport often with family friends between 1988 and 1995 or so. In 1998…thyroid issues started which turned into papilary carcinoma in 2010. In 2012 i was diagnosed at age 30 with langerhans cell histiocytosis, which isa very rare auto immune disease with no cure, and ccurrently I’m dealing with gynocological cancer issues with possible colon involvement. Doctor’s have no answers for me and I’ve had 14 surgeries. I’m 32 years old. To many people are getting cancer in the are. It needs to be investigated.

Abstract
In this review we discuss alarming epidemiological and experimental data on possible carcinogenic effects of long term exposure to low intensity microwave (MW) radiation. Recently, a number of reports revealed that under certain conditions the irradiation by low intensity MW can substantially induce cancer progression in humans and in animal models. The carcinogenic effect of MW irradiation is typically manifested after long term (up to 10 years and more) exposure. Nevertheless, even a year of operation of a powerful base transmitting station for mobile communication reportedly resulted in a dramatic increase of cancer incidence among population living nearby. In addition, model studies in rodents unveiled a significant increase in carcinogenesis after 17-24 months of MW exposure both in tumor-prone and intact animals. To that, such metabolic changes, as overproduction of reactive oxygen species, 8-hydroxi-2-deoxyguanosine formation, or ornithine decarboxylase activation under exposure to low intensity MW confirm a stress impact of this factor on living cells. We also address the issue of standards for assessment of biological effects of irradiation. It is now becoming increasingly evident that assessment of biological effects of non-ionizing radiation based on physical (thermal) approach used in recommendations of current regulatory bodies, including the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) Guidelines, requires urgent reevaluation. We conclude that recent data strongly point to the need for re-elaboration of the current safety limits for non-ionizing radiation using recently obtained knowledge. We also emphasize that the everyday exposure of both occupational and general public to MW radiation should be regulated based on a precautionary principles which imply maximum restriction of excessive exposure.

I have another grandson who was born with a very rare birth defect, blatter exterfy , in 2014. I have high concerns for my family and others who live here. We deserve answers to what is causing all of these health problems here.

My family has been directly affected as one of the pediatric cancer diagnoses. As I have worked with others on my team to lead this community, we have been inundated with information about cases of both pediatric and adult cases. We were astonished by the facts we have been able to find. This community deserves answers. The NYS DOH was willing to take this case for a third time in the last two decades. This should be a giant red flag! The NYS DOH representatives told our group in a community meeting that we need political backing to get anything done about our statistical anomalies in our area. What is making is sick???
