Subject: Tunnels Reef Gets More Needed Research
Tunnels Reef on Kauai is suffering from a terrible coral disease that started to spread all over the reef in 2011. Tens of thousands of corals have died since then and I have much of this shot with HD video. At the current rate of disease and coral deaths there will be no more live coral at Tunnels Reef within the next 5 years! This massive coral die off is causing the marine life and people who enjoy Tunnels reef to get sick. If we do not do something soon to save Tunnels Reef we will loose this magical part of Kauai for ever.
Yesterday I took another marine biologist out to Tunnels to view this coral destruction in person. She got to see and video the sick corals. Having more people look at the reef in person adds to the general knowledge us humans have so we can figure out why the reef is dying so rapidly!!
I know that having Laura along on this dive yesterday was a blessing and the turtles came in to give us their support. Here are some picks of the dying reef and our attempt to figure out why it is dying. We need a lot more people and funds to do the needed studies to save Tunnels Reef, and I hope those people come into the picture soon.“This facility will be the birth place for the most advanced radar the world has ever seen in the most capable Navy the world has ever seen. It will fulfill missile defense requirements recently identified by President Obama,” said Creevy.
The ARDEL facility will have six permanent staff that could be augmented to the projected peak number of 40 persons during radar testing. The facility would be manned 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year…….The facility is expected to be completed by August 2011.
