I did a snorkel yesterday at Tunnels and out of 8 turtles I saw, four had damaged shells, chipped shells and or mangled shredded flippers!! This is the same kind of damage I saw during RIMPAC. The turtles looked like they had gone through a firing squad! What else could cause this but the Navy sonar? I now have seen over a dozen turtles in

Turtle S & M?

this poor shape out at Tunnels and I only dive there twice a month so just think how many are actually damaged or have been killed. I have not seen any turtles at Tunnlels with tumors like I see often on the south side and these turtles are in clean pure water on the outer reefs with a good flow rate of mid ocean water.

Since the turtles are protected under the Endangered Species Act it seems like someone should follow up and try to find out what is killing them.

Hi T-I spoke to some experts here on turtles.  They think it is likely these are mating scars.  When turtles mount each other, they will at time bite each other’s flippers.  I know sounds odd, but something to consider.Web:http://www.nwhc.usgs.gov/hfs/

Hi ——,

Stewart sent me over some turtle mating pics. As you can see on shredded flipper, missing flippers or eyes. After spending over 5,000 hours in the sea viewing wildlife I have never seen a turtle bite another turtle.

Terry,

As I mentioned and after looking closely at all of the photos and video, I do not think those are all “mating scars” from frisky turtles.  I believe the turtle’s calcium carbonate shell and exoskeleton has been compromised by all of the pulsed EMF in the area, just like the coral reef, and the cleaning fish are able to nibble/chew through the turtles softened shells and “skin” at the cleaning stations, leaving the white patches and holes in the shell and flesh. This is the same phenomena you witnessed with the reef fish chewing through the softened coral reef.  The most softened areas will be those at the edges of the scutes and backs of flippers where electrons/ions concentrate and discharge.  In my opinion all calcium based biology is being “softened” and compromised in the area.  The open wounds will lead to chronic infections. Should be able to prove that right or wrong fairly quickly.

Effective Immediately Kauai Turtle Cleaning Stations will be renamed Turtle Eating Stations as it appears the fish are eating the Turtles…

Ask Dr. Hawking!

Dr. Hawking what do you think is happening to the turtles?

OMG, I just heard from my Hawaiian seal buddy that the government said turtles having sex are poking each others eyes out and biting holes in their shells and biting their flippers completely off!
