I spent 4 yours yesterday with the 14 sea turtles at Tunnels doing close up observation and HD video with time, date and GPS.
I made some interesting discoveries.
50 % of the turtles had a build up of crustose algae on their shell, chipped shells and, or tissue damage on the flipper.
The crustose algae is pink and you can clearly see it is on top of the shell. 5 years ago there were almost no turtles with this condition. This is a “turtle cleaning station” where the fish eat off this algae. 90% of the turtles right now are NOT visiting the cleaning station!! This is a huge shift. I believe it is painful to the turtles to have their shells and body cleaned by the fish with sharp teeth. Plus there is about an 80% reduction in fish at the cleaning station and over 50% of the corals have died there since August 2011. This cleaning station is visited by hundreds if not thousands of green sea turtles every year and it is an extremely import part of their habitat!
About 30 % of the turtles have the first layer of shell missing. It is white and you can clearly see there is no algae growth.
My most interesting discovery is of the 20% of the turtles with flipper damage and raw flesh exposed. They are NOT being chewed on at first. Their scales are simply falling off of the flipper then the other critters come in and chew on the exposed flesh. You can clearly see loose entire scales on their flippers flapping in the current until they fall off.
The bottom line is that almost 90% of the turtles are undergoing a dramatic change physically since August 2011 and this change happened when the military “weaponised” their microwave towers and changed their frequency up to 6 million watts for their electronic war games just offshore of Tunnels reef. The very same turtle problem is happening at Milolii right where the Navy is also operating their electronic war.
I believe you will see a calcium imbalance in the corals and in the turtles shells and flippers. This condition is caused by excess radiation. It has been well documented world wide with land based reptiles and other animals but not yet studied well in the sea.
Since no one yet can figure out why we have a massive coral disease at Tunnels, plus dead sharks, dead fish, dead whales and damaged turtles I think this should be taken very seriously as this is the habitat for a protected species under the Endangered Species Act.
I have included pictures with labels and also some fun “turtle yoga class” pics as these are amazing creatures to spend peaceful time with and it is not right, or legal to kill them to kill them!
Under the ESA law even “the likelihood” that the military electronic war games are altering the movement, feeding, breeding or habitat of the protected Green Sea Turtle demands a habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) be implemented.
I should not have to prove that excess radiation is harming the sea turtles. The military needs to prove that their electronic war is NOT harming the turtles. This interpretation of the ESA has be documented in a number of high profile Supreme Court cases and was also ruled upon yesterday in a federal court in Hawaii on behalf of the marine life.

This protected green sea turtle received this damage off the North shore of Kauai, HI during the summer of 2014 during the RIMPAC military exercises. This damage is either from and underwater concussion/ordinance or the calcium based turtle shell (endoskeleton) and skin are being damaged by low level electrical currents discharging/grounding into the ocean near the >100,000,000 watts of pulsed microwave radiation grounding out into the oceans on the North shore of Kauai during RIMPAC and from electronic warfare radars atop the hill in Kauai, HI. The fish and sea critters may be eating the turtle’s softened flesh and shell RIGHT OFF THE BONE!

From the LA Times

“A Federal judge has ruled in favor of environmentalists who assert the Navy has vastly underestimated the threat to marine mammals posed by its use of sonar and explosives during training off Southern California and Hawaii.

U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway in Hawaii ruled Tuesday that the National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA!!!!!) violated environmental laws when it decided that the Navy’s training would have a “negligible impact” on whales, dolphins, other mammals and sea turtles. The ruling appears to set the stage for an appeal or for the Navy to resubmit its application to the fisheries service for a permit. Other options would be for the Navy to relocate its training or adopt greater safeguards to protect sea creatures.

“The court’s ruling recognizes that, to defend our country, the Navy doesn’t need to train in every square inch of a swath of ocean larger than all 50 states combined,” said David Henkin, the Earthjustice attorney representing several groups that filed the lawsuit.

“The Navy shouldn’t play war games in the most sensitive waters animals use for feeding and breeding,” said Miyoko Sakashita, oceans director at the Center for Biological Diversity.”

I did a snorkel yesterday at Tunnels and out of 8 turtles I saw, four had damaged shells, chipped shells and or mangled shredded flippers!! This is the same kind of damage I saw during RIMPAC. The turtles looked like they had gone through a firing squad! What else could cause this but the Navy sonar? I now have seen over a dozen turtles in

Turtle S & M?

this poor shape out at Tunnels and I only dive there twice a month so just think how many are actually damaged or have been killed. I have not seen any turtles at Tunnlels with tumors like I see often on the south side and these turtles are in clean pure water on the outer reefs with a good flow rate of mid ocean water.

Since the turtles are protected under the Endangered Species Act it seems like someone should follow up and try to find out what is killing them.

Hi ——,

Stewart sent me over some turtle mating pics. As you can see on shredded flipper, missing flippers or eyes. After spending over 5,000 hours in the sea viewing wildlife I have never seen a turtle bite another turtle.

Terry,

As I mentioned and after looking closely at all of the photos and video, I do not think those are all “mating scars” from frisky turtles.  I believe the turtle’s calcium carbonate shell and exoskeleton has been compromised by all of the pulsed EMF in the area, just like the coral reef, and the cleaning fish are able to nibble/chew through the turtles softened shells and “skin” at the cleaning stations, leaving the white patches and holes in the shell and flesh. This is the same phenomena you witnessed with the reef fish chewing through the softened coral reef.  The most softened areas will be those at the edges of the scutes and backs of flippers where electrons/ions concentrate and discharge.  In my opinion all calcium based biology is being “softened” and compromised in the area.  The open wounds will lead to chronic infections. Should be able to prove that right or wrong fairly quickly.

OMG, I just heard from my Hawaiian seal buddy that the government said turtles having sex are poking each others eyes out and biting holes in their shells and biting their flippers completely off!
